Give thanks for life‘

Every new birth is a struggle’.

Greeting thanks for dropping by………. I am known as Sista Nia

I am an African woman, born in Moore Town Portland Jamaica of Maroon ancestral linage. I spent my most formative years living with my five brothers and extended family in Jamaica. Shortly after my ninth earthday, I embarked on a journey to join my parents and other siblings in Birmingham, England.

JOB: Over the years, I have work in a variety of settings including local government. I have been self employed, running my own business however I am now employed working in education. I work with young people who are experience emotional and social difficulties, which result as a result impact on their ability to access the education process.

VOLUNTARY WORK: I have carried out voluntary work in different capacities in and around my local neighbourhood. I have worked with adults, youths and young children.

HOBBIES: I enjoy travelling amongst other things. I have been blessed and fortunate so I take the opportunity when I can and have travelled once and sometimes twice a year for the past twenty-five years. I have visited countries including Ethiopia, Ghana, some of the Caribbean islands, America and Europe.

As a child I enjoyed being creative and was always be making something, either knitting or sewing. This is something I’ve take into adulthood. I now make costume jewellery; most of my beads are from Ghana.

FAMILY: I have been fortunate and blessed with four wonderful children one prince and thee princesses. I also have and two beautiful grandchildren.

DESIRE: To be purposeful in life.

WHAT NEXT: Well, I give thanks and praises to the most high Jah Rastafari mother and father of iration for life. Tomorrow is not promised to any one, so each day that that I am blessed, ‘I stride to do better’.

I was inspired to join Galaxy radio in January 1999 after hearing a discussion by a pilot know as ‘African Professor’ whose show was on Sunday mornings. He was speaking about a housing project in Ghana. I called him on his show and gained further information about the project. In March of the same year I made my first visit home. In Ghana I have worked alongside some brethren and sistren’s who have repatriated home and others from the local community.

I want to give thanks to my brethren Delroy Dan, who I met at the airport in England whilst the flight had been delayed by nine hours. Zebby, on the farm in Soymanya, Sister Betty, Prince Glen, My Lord, Empress Nadi and all those who had made the initial journey so positive. Thanks to Bobo Gabriel, Black Prince, Bobo Kani ‘look to the youths because they are the future and they are strong’. Also to all the ones and ones who encouraged me in the early days.
